Many major cities all over the world have both SOCIAL and SUPPORT groups for people with Herpes (HSV-1 and HSV-2) as well as HPV.

The social groups often use the terms "friends" as in "Central Cali H Friends" and "Bay Area Friends"; "H2O" as in "H2O New Jersey"; or "H Club" as in "Atlanta H Club." The Social Groups are for making friends, supporting each other, and having fun. Although many people have relationships with others they've met through these venues, they are separate from dating sites.

The support groups are often "HELP" support groups, affiliated with ASHA, the American Social Health Association. The Herpes Resource Center (HRC) has an affiliated network of local support (HELP) groups for people concerned about herpes simplex virus. The groups provide a safe, confidential environment where participants can get accurate information and share experiences, fears, and feelings with others who are concerned about herpes. For information on obtaining written publications on the herpes simplex virus, call the National Herpes Hotline at (919) 361-8488. If you are interested in starting a HELP Group in your area, please e-mail Fred Wyand, Program Coordinator, for more details. Information is also available for HPV Support Groups.

Sometimes local HELP support groups are affiliated with the local Social groups, but often these groups are completely separate. However, even if the support and social groups in a particular area are separate, they usually know about and support each other.

A good portion of those who know that they have a sexually transmitted disease are living their lives but not dating "outside the club" because they do not want to deal with the consequences of having to tell a prospective partner about their condition; or, they don't want to risk infecting someone else. There are a number of dating sites for such people:

  • Meeting People With Herpes (MPwH) - They provide a caring, sympathetic, and nurturing environment for people with Herpes (HSV1 and/or HSV2) and HPV to meet and interact with others in a similar situation.
  • Positive Singles and STD Singles - Dating sites for anyone with Herpes, HIV, AIDS, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and other sexually transmitted diseases.
  • After H and H Werks - dating sites and social networks for those with Herpes and HPV
